Welness - Gardening Safety

Here is some information from CIGNA regarding Safety in the Garden

Not counting reading or watching TV, gardening is the nation's most popular leisure activity. Whether you garden on the run while heading out to the kids' softball game or spend dawn till dusk in the yard every Saturday, safety should be a primary concern. In 2003, nearly 39,000 American gardeners went to emergency rooms with injries related to garden tools. And another 86,000 suffered mowing injuries.

Here are some ways to stay garden-safe so you can enjoy your labors all season long:

Wear long pants when working in tall grass or operating machinery.

Wear sturdy shoes when mowing or using large tools.

Protect against mosquito-borne diseases by applying insect repellent. If there are Lyme ticks in the area, tuck your pants into your boots and wear long sleeves.
