By "zip up", of course I'm referring to Windows compressed (zipped) folders! If you're ever trying to send someone several files, it would save both you and them some time if you took a few seconds to zip them together.
- Open the folder of the files you want to combine, and select all of them (Ctrl + click each file).
- Right-click on one of the selected files and go to Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder
- You'll see the computer working (very quickly), and soon you'll have a little file folder with a zipper running up the front of it.
This zipped folder now acts as a single file which can be attached to an email to send everything it contains, rather than attaching items individually. It has the added bonus of compressing the files contained in it (although not a lot, so don't think your 27GB powerpoint is going to compress down enough to send it in an email)--how cool is that? Furthermore, let's say you want to password protect all the documents you have in that zipped file:
- Double-click on your zipped folder to open it.
- Go to File > Add a password
- Choose a password
And....done! Now someone can open your zipped file and see the contents, but in order to access any of the files it contains they will have to know the password.
