Since most of us sit at a computer all day, I thought it might be fun to talk a little bit about eye health. Here is some information from the Centers for Disease Control regarding eye health. Just in case you don't have the time or desire to read the whole article, here are the highlights of what they suggest to keep your eyes healthy:
- Have a Comprehensive Dilated Eye Exam
- Know your family's eye health history
- Eat right to protect your eye sight
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Wear protective eye wear (safety glasses or goggles)
- Quit smoking or never start
- Be cool and wear your shades
- Give your eyes a rest
- Clean your hands and contact lenses regularly
- Practice workplace eye safety
Funny that this list contains many items that you've probably seen before in Wellness Blog postings - eat right, maintain a healthy weight, quit smoking/never start...all things that are not only good for your eye health, but good for your health overall.
I also received some information from VSP, our vision insurance provider. Did you know that one in every 10 adults has diabetes and that number is expected to rise to one in three by 2050? Eye care providers can detect early signs of diabetes during an eye exam - one more reason to get those eyes checked regularly!
Keep those eyes healthy!
Your wellness team,
Jennifer, Sara S., Cari, Robyn and Angela
